Bobath and Vojta tables for the rehabilitation of children and adults

A Bobath table stands out above all for its large, uniform working surface. The wide table top gives the therapist freedom when conducting exercises, changing the position of the patient, working in support positions and carrying out therapy that requires more space than a standard rehabilitation table.

Tables in this category can be used in neurological rehabilitation of children and adults, neurodevelopmental therapy, movement exercises, preparatory verticalization and work with patients who need assistance when changing body position.

How does a Bobath table differ from a standard rehabilitation table?

A standard massage or manual therapy table usually has a relatively narrow top, which gives the therapist easy access to the patient from both sides. In neurological therapy, however, a much larger surface is often needed.

A wide Bobath table allows the therapist to work together with the patient on the table top, to support the patient and to safely conduct exercises in various positions. The larger surface also makes it easier to turn the patient, to move between lying, sitting and support positions, and to conduct exercises with children.

The standard table-top surface of SUMER tables in this category is 190 × 110 cm. On request, we can also make a table with different dimensions, adapted to the nature of the therapy and the available space.

Electric Bobath tables

Electric height adjustment allows the table top to be smoothly set at a level suitable for the patient and the therapist. Lowering the table can make it easier to get onto the table top, transfer from a wheelchair or start exercises, while raising it allows the therapist to work in a more ergonomic position.

The height is changed without the need to manually lift a heavy table top. This is particularly important in facilities where several therapists use one table or where patients with different needs and levels of mobility are treated during the day.

Depending on the model, the table can be operated with a hand remote, a foot remote or central frame control. Frame control allows the height to be changed with the foot from different sides of the table, so the therapist does not have to step away from the patient.

Bobath tables with manual height adjustment

A model with manual adjustment can be a good solution when the height of the table is changed less often and the most important factors are a large working surface, stability and an attractive price.

The Bobath CUBE Manus table keeps the wide table top designed for neurological therapy but does not require a power supply. It can be used in a practice, an educational facility or a room where access to a power socket is limited.

Before choosing a manual model, however, it is worth considering how often the height will be changed. For intensive work with different patients, electric adjustment is usually the more convenient solution.

When choosing a table, it is worth considering not only its price, but above all the way therapy is conducted, the needs of the patients and the conditions in the room.

Stable construction and comfortable work

During neurological rehabilitation, the patient may perform movements that require active support. The table should therefore provide adequate stability and space for both the patient and the therapist.

SUMER Bobath tables have powder-coated steel frames and wide, upholstered table tops. The construction of the tables has been tested under a dynamic load of 200 kg, i.e. in conditions that take into account not only the weight of the patient but also the forces generated during movement, changes of position and therapy.

A large surface does not mean, however, that the table can be used to transport a patient. Any movement of the device should be carried out in accordance with the instructions for use of the given model.

A Bobath table for home rehabilitation

A wide rehabilitation table can also be used at home, especially when therapy is conducted regularly and the exercises require a larger, stable surface.

Before choosing a table for the home, it is worth checking:

• the dimensions of the room and the width of the doors
• the amount of space the therapist needs around the table top
• the possibility of connecting a power supply
• the required height range
• the possibility of wheelchair access or transfer
• whether the table will need to be moved later

If space is limited, we can agree on a non-standard table-top dimension. However, it should be remembered that reducing the width limits the working surface, which is the most important feature of a Bobath-type table.
